This German Language and History tour is specifically designed around CLIL principles. This 14 day tour includes Berlin, Dresden, Nuremberg and Munich and is suitable for both German secondary language and history students.

Starting with a German language workshop, students will experience German culture from bustling Berlin to quiet rural towns, from modern art and architecture to war ruins and ancient castles.

Day 1

Overnight flight to Berlin

Day 2

On arrival board your private coach and transfer to your hotel.

After check in enjoy an orientation guided walk around the area.

Overnight Berlin.

Day 3

In the morning participate in a 2 hour German language workshop. The program will be specifically tailored to students’ needs.

Following the language workshop you will visit The Story of Berlin museum, the perfect introduction to the city. An exciting multimedia journey through 800 years of the Berliner’s history, from medieval times through the dark period of the National Socialist regime, to the Cold War. The tour also includes entry to an underground Cold War nuclear bunker.

In the afternoon you will take a part in a walking tour of the city centre. The tour will include key sites in Third Reich and Cold War history, such as the Reichstag, Brandenburg Gate and Checkpoint Charlie.

Overnight Berlin.

Day 4

After breakfast students will attend their second 2 hour German language workshop.

After the workshop board your coach for a tour with a local guide. You will visit the Eastside Gallery, Soviet Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial and Documentation Centre.

In the afternoon, enter the interactive DDR Museum to learn about life under communism.

Overnight Berlin.

Day 5

Today you will visit the Museum Island. Museum Island is an UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to several of the most popular museums. With a combined ticket, access all Museum Island has to offer. View the Egyptian bust of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum, the partial recreation of the Pergamon Altar and ancient treasures in the Altes Museum.

In the late afternoon you will enjoy a sightseeing cruise along the River Spree. There are many important sights along the way, such as the Reichstag and the government quarter. An audio guide explains the sights along the route, supplemented by information on Berlin’s history.

Overnight Berlin.

Day 6

After breakfast board your private coach and transfer to Potsdam. Enjoy a guided tour of the lavish Sanssouci Palace. The entire complex with its palaces and park is inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage, it is recognised as “an outstanding example of architectural creations and landscaping” and “a cultural property of exceptional quality”.

Later in the afternoon continue to Dresden.

Overnight Dresden.

Day 7

This morning you will attend your third German language workshop which also includes a Dresden sightseeing tour. This program will give you the opportunity to learn German whilst really getting to know Germany. A German language teacher will lead the group on a walking tour that includes the Frauenkirche, Dresden Castle and the Zwinger Palace.

Later in the afternoon enjoy a cruise on the Elbe River to the summer palace of Pillnitz. Enjoy a brilliant cruise which explores the elegant Elbe river. The beautiful city of Dresden is shaped by soaring towers and dominant domes of palaces, churches and stately homes. Known as the ‘Florence of the Elbe’, it’s hard to imagine the huge destruction the city suffered during World War II.

Day 8

In the morning board your coach and travel to Nuremberg.

On arrival you will take an orientation walk through the

Medieval centre to the Imperial Kaiserberg Castle. The Imperial Castle is the symbol of Nuremberg. Since the Middle Ages its silhouette has represented the power and importance of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and the outstanding role of the imperial city of Nuremberg

After taking in the views, head underground to the WWII art bunkers for a guided tour.

Overnight Nuremberg.

Day 9

After breakfast meet your German language teacher for a guided walking tour of the expansive Rally Grounds. The tour will detail the Nazis rise to power and their extensive use of propaganda during the Third Reich. Expand your knowledge of this period in history with a visit to the Documentation Centre.

Enjoy some free time and practice your German language skills with the locals.

Overnight Nuremberg.

Day 10

In the morning board your private coach and transfer to Dachau where you will undertake a two hour guided visit of the concentration camp memorial.

Continue your trip to Munich. On arrival enjoy a stroll through the city centre and visit the famous Marienplatz. Marienplatz is the heart of the city of Munich. In the Middle Ages, the square used to be a market place as well as the site where tournaments and festivities took place.

Day 11

After breakfast you will visit the main summer residence of the former rulers of Bavaria, the Nymphenburg Palace. Nymphenburg Palace (Schloss Nymphenburg) is one of the city’s top sights and one of the largest royal palaces in Europe.

In the afternoon enjoy some time in the pretty English Gardens. The English Garden (Englischer Garten) lies in the midst of bustling Munich and is one of the largest city parks in Europe, larger even than New York’s Central Park. It stretches all the way from Munich’s city centre to the north-eastern city limits.

Day 12

Board your coach for a day trip to the breathtaking

Neuschwanstein Castle, situated on a rugged hill against a backdrop of mountain scenery. Its beauty has inspired musicians to compose and architects to design. A guided tour will take you through the castle complex.

Later in the afternoon return to Munich and enjoy some free time.

Overnight Munich.

Day 13

After breakfast board your private coach and transfer to the airport for your return flight.

Arrive home.
