This tour is designed around the Civics and Citizenship Educational Program. Canberra is the home of the Australian story, and the range of national cultural institutions and attractions providing education programs that can immerse students in hands on learning. Students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and values of citizenship through active learning.

This itinerary is designed as a complement to classroom learning using a range of educational techniques along with interactive displays, hands-on activities and role plays.

Day 1 – Arrive in Canberra

On arrival board your coach and head to the National Capital Exhibition Centre at Regatta Point. The National Capital Exhibition tells the story of Canberra, Australia’s national capital. Through interactive displays, the exhibition illustrates Canberra’s vital role as a symbol of Federation. It features the people, events, history and design which contributed to the development of this unique, modern, fully planned city.

Afterwards visit the National Archives of Australia and uncover the nation’s political, cultural and social history.

Day 2

This morning after breakfast head to the Museum of Australian Democracy. A national icon of superb design and historical significance, Old Parliament House in Canberra is home to the Museum of Australian Democracy. As the first and only museum dedicated to telling the story of Australian democracy, the museum offers a range of innovative exhibitions, tours and activities.

In the afternoon you will participate in a guided tour of Parliament House and participate in the Parliamentary Education Program, visiting both Chambers, followed by refreshments.

In the evening have some fun with Ten Pin Bowling.

Overnight in Canberra.

Day 3

Today you will visit the Australian War Memorial, the national memorial to the members of its armed forces and supporting organisations who have died or participated in wars involving the Commonwealth of Australia.

Afterwards head to the Electoral Education Centre. Experience Australia’s federal electoral system at the National Electoral Education Centre and immerse the students in the power of Australia’s democracy.

In the evening head to Questacon’s ‘Q by night’ program. The Q by Night program offers the students an exclusive guided experience through Questacon’s Centre in the Parliamentary Zone.

Day 4

In the morning you will visit the National Museum of Australia. The National Museum of Australia preserves and interprets Australia’s social history, exploring the key issues, people and events that have shaped the nation.

In the afternoon visit the Royal Australian Mint. With a guided tour of the mint students are able to discover various interesting facts about the history of coins in Australia, along with how they are designed and the factory process.

Later in the afternoon visit the Telstra Tower. Telstra Tower rises 195 metres above the summit of Black Mountain and provides unsurpassed 360-degree views of Canberra and surrounds.

Day 5

This morning see the High Court in Action. The High Court of Australia is the most senior court in the Australian judicial system. Tours of the building bring to life the powerful history and contemporary function of the High Court in upholding Australia’s democracy. Tours take students into courtrooms where the High Court interprets and applies the law of Australia and where cases of national significance are heard, including challenges to the constitutional validity of laws.

Depart Canberra for home.
