This Visual Arts program has been designed to incorporate the best of Canberra Arts

The students will have an opportunity to experience Australia’s dynamic environment and to meet the visual arts professionals. They will discover the national art collection and learn how works of art are acquired and exhibitions developed. Students will go behind the scenes to experience the workings of the Gallery and participate in workshops with Gallery staff and professional artists.

Day 1

Early morning depart to Canberra. On arrival in Canberra board your private coach and transfer to the National Portrait Gallery. You will take a self-guided tour of the gallery and exhibition where you will discover Australia’s most creative and innovative thinkers and achievers.

Afterwards you will participate in a gallery workshop tailored in collaboration with educators.

After lunch you will visit Parliament House to see their extensive art collection. At Parliament House, you can discover works ranging from Arthur Boyd’s monumental Great Hall Tapestry to a 1297 Magna Carta. You can also see portraits of Prime Ministers and documents that have changed a nation

Later in the afternoon head to the Australian War Memorial to see the ‘Artists at War’ exhibition and take a part in Visual Arts workshop. Students will enjoy participating in the daily 5pm ‘Last Post’ ceremony, before heading back to your accommodation and dinner.

Overnight in Canberra

Day 2

After breakfast you will visit the National Gallery of Australia art collection, and have the opportunity to see the current exhibition. Talk to lectures and learn more about the National Gallery of Australia, the collection and special exhibitions.

After lunch, you will visit the Old Parliament House and see the magnificent art collection housed in the gallery and corridors. You will participate in a workshop.

Tonight after dinner you will visit The National Dinosaur Museum. Step back in time through the 165 million years that the dinosaurs ruled the planet. This tour brings a unique insight into dinosaur biology and evolution in a fun-filled, interactive experience.

Overnight in Canberra

Day 3

After breakfast visit NatureArt Lab and take part in an educational art program, run by experienced science communicators and artists. Discover and learn about nature through observation, drawing, painting, nature journaling and craft. Get to know the birds, insects, marsupials, reptiles and the unique Australian plant communities featured in the Gardens.

After lunch board your coach for a transfer to the airport.
