AN INSIDER’S GUIDE TO ITALY

Italy is one of the most-travelled countries in Europe and one of the most popular destinations for student travel, and it’s no wonder – with beautiful scenery, many spectacular landmarks and historical places to visit.

The Colosseum, Vatican City, and the Ufizzi Gallery are among the best-known places to visit in Italy. The canals of Venice, the landscapes of Tuscany, the cobblestone streets of Rome, the Arno river running through Florence, and the cliffs of Positano, are just some of the natural beauties of this country.

The best time to visit Italy is between April and September when you can enjoy the Mediterranean summer with temperatures from 20°C to 35°C. The official language is Italian, but English is widely spoken in the main tourist areas.

ROME

Italy’s capital, Rome, is genuinely one of the great cities of the world. Rich in history, beauty and culture, it has been an inspiration to countless generations of visitors. You have an opportunity to travel through the history of the city by visiting the new multimedia show “Welcome to Rome”, which is a spectacular video projection and an excellent way to learn how this city was built. The must-see historic and cultural sites in Rome are: the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Pantheon, the Castel Sant’Angelo National Museum, St. Peter’s Square and St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Altar of the Fatherland and the Fountain of the Four Rivers created by Bernini.

MILAN

The second largest city in Italy is Milan, known for its lifestyle, creativity, shopping, opera and nightlife. The Duomo Cathedral, Castello Sforzesco, La Scala, and the Santa Maria Delle Grazie with Leonardo da Vinci’s, ‘The Last Supper’, are some of the must-see places while in Milan.

FLORENCE

Florence is a cultural, artistic and architectural gem of Italy. Two of the most world-famous galleries in the world can be found here – Uffizi and the Pitti Palace. One of the greatest unique masterpieces, David by Michelangelo, can be found at the Accademia Gallery. As well as all these incredible art galleries, Florence has over 80 museums. Among them, the most famous is the magnificent Palazzo Vecchio, the Archeological Museum, the Museum of the History of Science, the Palazzo Davanzati, the Stibbert Museum, Saint Mark’s Basilica, the Medici Chapels, the Zoological Museum and the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo.

VENICE

Venice, with its historical attractions and beautiful canals, is one of Italy’s most famous attractions. It is now listed as a world heritage site, along with its lagoon and is renowned for its beauty, architecture and artwork. There is an endless number of attractions with the first being in Piazza San Marco such the Basilica, Doge’s Palace, Torre dell’Orologio and the Campanile.
